Brecks Blog

From time to time we would like to share articles about the flora and fauna at and around Brecks, which we hope you will enjoy.

More tree planting!

Susan has started planting more willows around The Byre to attract more wildlife and some shelter.  We will be having areas of Eared Willows planted down below the Barn soon.

They are slower growing than our other willows but are native and good for attracting insects and birds.  We have been selling willow cutting to help raise money for the school trips for the 2nd year.

Orkney beach clean

Susan organised a beach clean for the shore at the other side of Echna Loch in Burray which had been badly hit with litter after storm Caroline.

It is looking much better now. More beach cleans to follow ????

Happy New Year from James, Susan and family at Brecks Self Catering.

We are currently lambing on the farm just now and we have some very friendly lambs as you can see from the pics.

We have plenty of availability for Winter and Spring breaks if anyone is looking for a relaxing break.

Tree planting will be starting in February and March watch this space!!!
